Different Types of Pens

The pen was first seen in around 5000 BC and through the years it's evolved into what we use today. There are a few various pens ink:

• Ballpoint Pen - An oil based ink with a small sphere as the ball rolling out the ink on to paper.
• Rollerball Pen - Uses water based ink or gel and works similar to the ballpoint pen.
• A fountain pen - Uses water base ink as well but the ink travels through a nib. Ink flows freely from a small ink container or reservoir inside the pen. The ink flows through a metal piece called the nib where the ink reaches the tip and then on to the paper.
• Felt-Tip Pen & Markers- The smallest and finest pens in the world for writing on paper. Felt-tips are used for colouring and markers are used for writing on rough or white board surfaces.

Pens In History

In the past there were three types of pens;

1. The Dip Pen - which is similar to the fountain pen
2. Quill Pen -Just like in the movies, a feather based pen. The tip of the feather acts like a dip and you have to dip the tip into ink then write. You need to keep dipping the quill pen back into ink after writing a few words.
3. Reed Pen - Made from reed or bamboo with a very narrow tip which is made by cutting a slit at the end. More primitive than the quill pen.
