There were many other forms of USB flash drives, take for example the “compact flash” (CF) which was created in 2000 by Lexar. The USB Flash Drive was patented by Trek Technology and Netac Technology however many companies still manufactured USB drivers regardless of the patent.
Second Generation USB Flash Drives
Today’s modern flash drives use new USB 2.0 standards and feature Hi-Speed connectivity, which allows the transfer of information at tremendously high speeds. They are also much larger, usually averaging around 8 GB, but with the option of 32 GB, and even 64 GB drives.
